Whitehead factory
Most likely refers to Stabilimento Tecnico Fiumano, a factory in Fiumano that made steam engine parts. Robert Whitehead, a British engineer was employed there. An Austro-Hungarian naval officer, Giovanni Luppis, had made a prototype torpedo, but was unsatisfied with the design. He engaged Whitehead, who created a compressed air propelled torpedo, essentially similar to modern designs.
