Sacco and Vanzetti
31, Nicola Sacco (1891-1927) and Bartolomeo Vanzetti (Italian: [1888-1927) were Italian immigrants and anarchists, controversially accused of murdering Alessandro Berardelli and Frederick Parmenter, a guard and a paymaster, during the April 15, 1920, armed robbery of the Slater and Morrill Shoe Company in Braintree, Massachusetts. Seven years later, they were executed in the electric chair at Charlestown State Prison. Regardless of the uncertainty surrounding their actual guilt, their controversial trial and execution made them symbols of intolerance, racism and injustice, with most historians considering their conviction unfair due to prejudice against immigrants and radicals.
